Do you love squishmallows? Of course you do! They are soft, fluffy, and downright adorable. They originated in California, but they were an attempt at emulating Japanese plushies. Squishmallows have slowly been making their way into the hearts of people all over the world thanks to their cuteness.

There are many reasons for the squishmallow’s popularity. For starters, they are incredibly soft and cuddly. They are also very affordable, which makes them a great gift option. Additionally, they come in a wide variety of colors and styles, so there is sure to be a squishmallow that is perfect for everyone.

Another reason squishmallows are so popular is that they are extremely versatile. They can be used as a stuffed animal, pillow, or even a stress reliever. Squishmallows are also collectible, which means that people of all ages can enjoy them.

The company that created them, KellyToy, was very smart and attached a name and personality to each one of them. When you buy a squishmallow, you’re not just buying a cute plushy, you’re getting a friend with its own story.

There are hundreds of different squishmallows to choose from, each with their own unique design.

But what many people don’t know is that these little creatures can be incredibly valuable. As with every collectible, there are certain squishmallows that are worth more than others.

Let’s see what makes these so valuable.

It’s (almost) all About Rarity

There are over 1,000 squishmallows out there, but some are rarer than others. The company releases new designs regularly, but they don’t always stick around for long.

Plus, there are limited and special editions that are only available for a short time. For example, KellyToy creates a new line of toys for each Valentine’s Day, called the Valentine Squad. These are only available for a few weeks and then they’re gone for good.

Also, some of these plushies were only released in certain countries or stores. For example, there is a special version of Chanel the Cinnamon Roll that’s been released only in Canada, while Brigita the Snow Leopard was a Target exclusive.

Things like these are what makes these squishmallows highly sought after by collectors and drives up the price.

As you can imagine, the rarer the squishmallow, the more valuable it is. Especially older versions, because they come from a time when they weren’t that popular, meaning there are less in circulation.

If you’re lucky enough to find an older squishmallow, it’s likely to be worth more than a newer one.

Conditions Matter

It’s not just about how rare the squishmallow is, but also about its condition. If a toy is in mint condition, it will be worth more than one that’s been sitting in your closet for years. If you want to maximize the value of your squishmallow, make sure it’s well-kept and free of any stains or damage.

Collectors place a lot of value on the toys’ conditions, so much that most listings you’ll find online will specifically say things like “never hugged”. That’s a bit sad if you think about it, but it also speaks volume about how

The Tag is Important

The tag is important for two reasons. First, it shows when the squishmallow was made. As we mentioned before, older squishmallows are worth more than newer ones.

Second, the tag can affect the condition of the toy. If you take good care of your squishmallow and keep the tag attached, it will be worth more than one without a tag.

Some squishmallows come with special tags that say “limited edition” or “retired.” These are usually worth more than the regular ones.

A squishmallow without a tag is less valuable than one with its tag.

A Few Words on Squads

Squishmallows come in a squad. A squad is a group of four related squishmallows. For example, the Bright Squad consists of Leonard the Lion, Tristan the Triceratops, Reginald the Corgi, Zeke the Zebra, Candace the Corgi, and Lexie the Cheetah.

Some squads are more valuable than others because they’re harder to find. The Halloween Squad, for example, are only available for a short time around Halloween and then they’re gone for good. They might come back next Halloween, but usually KellyToy just releases new Halloween-themed plushies instead.

Another squad you should keep an eye on is the Valentine Squad. Its members are only available for a few weeks around Valentine’s Day.

If you’re looking to invest in squishmallows, squads are a good way to do it. Not only are they more affordable than buying each one individually, but they also have the potential to increase in value over time. Plus, you can sell a complete squad for more too in the future, because it’s a completed mini-collection.

If you get a combination of themed squad and shop-specific squishmallow, you know it’ll be valuable in the future. If a certain toy can only be bought at a certain time in a certain shop, then it’s likely it’ll increase in value over time, as opposed to a toy that’s around all year and can be bought online on a big store like Amazon.

The Most Valuable Squishmallows

Squishmallows weren’t that valuable up to the COVID-19 pandemic. But lockdowns made them explode in popularity, as lonely people looked elsewhere for emotional support.

This is reflected in the prices some of these plushies are fetching now.

Here are the most valuable squishmallows. We included links to where you can buy them (when possible).

Chanel the Cinnamon Roll

Chanel is a cinnamon roll squishmallow that was released as part of the Valentine squad in Canada in 2020. She’s one of the rarest and most valuable squishmallows, because she was only available in Canada for a short time.

If you’re lucky enough to find her for sale, she’ll likely cost you around $200.

Editor’s note: The difference between the basic version and the Canada exclusive one is in the blush and eyelashes.

Patty the Cow

Patty is a pink and purple cow from the easter squad, available in many of the typical squishmallows sizes: 5″, 7″, 8″, and 16″.

Patty is a weird case. She used to be extremely rare, but then KellyToy re-released her. Still, she’s not as common as other squishmallows, so you’ll find most listings at around $100-$150, like this one and this one.

Phillippe the Frog

Phillippe is a green frog with a white belly and hearts under its eyes. It is part of the Valentine squad.

It is quite rare and fetches for a good price, often around $200-$250 like this one and this one. You can find it in the typical squishmallows sizes: keychain, clip, small (around five inches), medium (seven to eight inches) and large (sixteen inches).

Phillippe is a popular squishmallow among collectors because of its unique design and color. There are only 7 frogs among squishmallows. It’s also one of the rarer ones, which adds to its value.

Golden Hans the Hedgehog

This is a golden version of the regular Hans the Hedgehog, created to commemorate 100 millions of squishmallows sold wordlwide. There are only 3,000 worldwide, and they are signed by KellyToy’s co-president Johnatan Kelly. Pélus, they are huge at 24″.

You’ll find various listings for this squishmallow at around $100, like this one.

Blossom the Lamb

Blossom is an adorable lamb with closed eyes and a rainbow on her gut. She expresses serenity with her extreme fluffiness and relaxed expression.

What makes Blossom so rare are the circumstances she was created in. It was a joint effort between KellyToy and Justice, but unfortunately, Justice went bankrupt last year, meaning there is a finite number of Blossoms in the world.

As a result, very few Blossom plushies were ever made and they are now incredibly hard to find. If you’re lucky enough to find one, it’s likely to cost you between $200 and $300, depending on its size. For example, this 8″ inch would cost you $175, while this 12″ one is priced at $300.

Mariah the Tie-Dye Lamb

Mariah is a colorful lamb with a body covered in pastel colors. Her rarity comes from the fact that she was an Aldi exclusive for the second half of 2020.

Most listings are around $130 for Mariah. There are other versions of Mariah that cost only a couple of bucks, but they aren’t the Tie-Dye one. Be careful when you’re shopping around.

Jack the Black Cat

Jack the Black Cat

Jack the Black Cat is a completely black squishmallow with closed eyes and a smile that would melt the vilest person’s heart.

What makes Jack so special is the fact that it was the first limited edition squishmallow, as well as the 500th one released overall. Only 500 were made to celebrate the occasion, and it’s shown by the “500” emblem embroided inside his left ear.

Jack is extremely rare and definitely the most valuable squishmallow out there. Don’t expect to pay less than $1,000 for one. For example, StockX is currently selling one for ~$1,000, and eBay is selling one still sealed for $1,500 and another one for $1,150. Mercari has a listing for $1,900 for a sealed one too.

JSK the Cat

If you thought Jack the Black Cat was rare and valuable, wait until you see JSK. There are only 250 JSK plushies in existence, making it one of the rarest squishmallows.

Its rarity is boosted by the fact that you couldn’t just buy one. You had to find a redemption card in a trading card pack (yes, there are trading cards of squishmallows). Thus, you can bet that only people really invested in squishmallows would have one of these. Usually, these people won’t sell their squishmallows for anything in the world.

But, we found a listing for this, here it is, if you’re willing to drop $2,000 for it.

Editor’s note: You’ll find many guides mentioning Santino the Platypus as extremely rare. This was true up to about 2 weeks ago, when KellyToy re-released it at Kroger and affiliates. You can buy a new one for about $14 right now.

It’s still rare, and people are still looking for him, but expect its price to fall way below the $1,000+ we are currently seeing.

Rare Squishmallows Hunting Guide

If you’re looking to start your own collection of rare squishmallows, or if you just want to add a few more valuable ones to your current stash, here are a few tips:

  • Check online marketplaces like eBay and Mercari. You’ll find the most listings on these platforms. Etsy is fine too. If you’re lucky you might find a listing on marketplaces like Carigslist and Facebook Marketplace, perhaps at a lower value too.
  • Keep an eye out for re-releases. KellyToy is known to re-release old, retired, and limited edition squishmallows from time to time.
  • Join Squishmallow collecting groups on social media. These are great places to find out about new releases, as well as get tips on where to find the rare ones.

Warning: be wary of scam sites. Squishmallows are very popular, and unfortunately that means there are a lot of fake ones out there. Make sure you’re buying from a reputable source. Here’s a list of scam sites you must avoid at all costs.

Conclusions

Squishmallows are popular because they’re cute, versatile, and collectible. Some are more valuable than others because of their rarity or condition. The tag is also important, as it can show when the squishmallow was made.

Squishmallows are a fun, cuddly way to collect your favorite animals. But some of them are worth a lot more than others. Consider how rare a squishmallow is before you buy it, as well as whether or not it’s been retired.

If you’re a collector, luckily for you KellyToy often re-releases old, retired, and limited edition squishmallows. But if you’re looking for a specific one, your best bet is to check online marketplaces or join Squishmallow collecting groups on social media.

And whatever you do, don’t buy from a scam site!

Happy hunting! And may the odds be ever in your favor.
